GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY

  • June 22 - Producing in Others What God Has Done in Us

Reproducing is the key to the flow of the anointing.

    By Mark Flattery

    Today's Scripture: 2 Kings 4:6

Central Thought: Reproducing is the key to the flow of the anointing.

'When all the jars were full, she said to her son, 'Bring me another one.' But he replied, 'There is not a jar left.' Then the oil stopped flowing” (2 Kings 4:6, NIV).

In the middle of this great miracle, we have a lesson on being good stewards. We often cite the parable of talents that Jesus spoke of and stress the importance of using our gifts and abilities for the Lord. But one thing we miss is that we are to produce what we are. Think about this: What God has done in you, He wants to do through you. If you have received salvation, then Jesus states that you are to produce salvation in someone else. Others ought to become born again as a result of your life and testimony.

Likewise, if you have received the infilling of the Holy Spirit, you are to produce the same experience in other believers. If you have received healing, pray for someone else to be healed. If you have overcome an addiction or broken free from besetting sin, then there is someone who should benefit from your personal victory. We are here to produce. Jesus told His disciples to bear fruit, the quality of fruit that remains (John 15:16).

With Elisha and the widow having vessels for oil, the same thought of production is revealed. When the jars ran out, the oil stopped flowing. When we stop producing, then the anointing will cease from flowing. When a church stops reaching out to bring in 'new vessels,” the anointing will cease to flow in that church. If a church or a believer is going to continue to experience the miraculous power of God, then there must be the opportunity of the vessels to be brought in to be filled. God is in the business of flowing, not stagnating.

Devotional Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to produce in others what You have done for me and in me.
