GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY

  • December 11 - Toleration-A Sin?

God will not tolerate our toleration of that which opposes His Kingdom.

    By Larry Thomas

    Today's Scripture: Revelation 2:18-29

Central Thought: God will not tolerate our toleration of that which opposes His Kingdom.

Small wonder the opening verses of this passage describes Lord of the Church as one who has 'eyes like a flame of fire.” As the message to the church leader continues, it's obvious that the Lord saw right through everything that was going on in the church.

Actually, according to the reading, the church had some positive things going for it. Yet there was that one little problem that overshadowed it all. It was the sin of toleration. In their case, the church at Thyatira was tolerating a person who claimed to be like them but in reality was using her position to pervert the truth and hinder the work of God there.

What do you think the Lord would say to the church today in light of the things our culture accepts and promotes? Most likely, He would have the same indictment and instructions for us as well.

May we learn from their mistakes and take a stand for true biblical holiness and righteousness. It will not be a popular stand, but certainly will bring the blessing of the Lord of the Church upon our efforts.

Devotional Prayer: God help me to be like you instead of the culture around me.

    Today's Bible Reading: Amos 4:1-6:14; Revelation 2:18-3:6; Psalm 130:1-8; Proverbs 29:21-22
